Alexander McQueen Ready-to-Wear Fall/Winter

As the school year is looming at the horizon, I thought it would be great to start my seasonal analysis of what designers gave us to feed our tremendous hunger for fashion. In the coming weeks, I will be sharing with you my account of the runway shows of my favourite designers, highlighting the main trends that will be up for next season.

Let’s start with the best of all: Alexander McQueen

McQueens’ eccentricity has always moved me. I do not see in those collections only a commercial strategy to reach the clients, I see a vision, or something more likely of a reflection of the society. Seeing the work of the fashion house, every season, is always quite an exciting part for me. So, let’s cut to the chase and look at this amazing work.

The atmosphere of the Alexander McQueen show was minimalist. When, for this summer collection, it was a light-filled runway with pastel coloured models , the contrast of this fall/winter runway, where the models were emerging, covered in white, from a dark corner is comparable to the ying and the yang.

What I have loved the most about this collection is, of course, the mix of textures. Those fluffy fur, mixed with those rough laces remembering my grandmother’s table centerpiece and those metallics belt and glasses were a great combination first surprising but, still working great all together.

In the first part of the show, it was a cold atmosphere (even with those warming overdose of ostrich feathers), coming right form a futurist unknown time.  And then, surprisingly, in the second half were those flower-like dresses in this wonderful pinkish red appearing in the ads of the brand. This second act sounded to me like an happy and colourful spring after a strict and cold winter.

Overall, the Alexander McQueen’s clothes were all about volume, but still, worn by skinny models.  It was about contrasts, there in the colours, there in the textures. Without giving lots us wearable trends, the McQueen show is to be seen as a general inspiration for the everyday wear.

To be remembered: The metallic accessories
