HomeARTS & DESIGNFILMOur Modern and Historical Favourite 5 Couples February 13, 2015 1. Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera Known for their troubled relationship, They met in the late 1920’s and were drawn together by their shared spirit. That was a lust for life. Their extended love letters over the years show a great passion that did not die with time. Rivera tolerated the many affairs of Frida, but she got furious when she discovered his affair with her younger sister. They divorced in 1939 to remarry, only 1 year later. They remained together till the end. He said : In the top of a high tree, I saw Frida in overalls, starting to climb down. Laughing gaily, she took my hand and ushered me through the house, which seemed to be empty, and into her room. Then she paraded all her paintings before me. These, her room, her sparkling presence, filled me with a wonderful joy. I did not know it then, but Frida had already become the most important fact in my life. And she would continue to be, up to the moment she died, twenty-seven years later. 2. Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin For our favourite French musician combo, we present to you Serge and Jane.
