Schitt’s Creek
The hilarious and heartwarming riches to rags story captured audiences around the world, cleaning up at the Emmys and SAG Award shows. From the very first season of the show, the lavish style of the previously wealthy Rose family was something to marvel over. The extravagant wardrobe was curated by the show’s costume designer, Debra Hanson. Starting on a tight budget, they combed through eBay and TheRealReal to outfit the cast in iconic designer wears from Alexander McQueen, archival Balenciaga, and Givenchy. Moira Rose, played by the legendary Catherine O’Hara, stood out among the rest of the cast member though; wearing countless fabulous wigs and floor-length gowns to the local cafe.
Euphoria
Euphoria broke ground for being one of the boldest and enthralling shows, gaining high praise from all. Following the life of a group of high schoolers dealing with intense conflicts, mental health concerns, and finding themselves, the show is full of trademark Gen Z looks that don’t disappoint. The costume design perfectly matches the atmosphere and production style of the film; dark, daring, and endlessly intriguing. What really made an impact though was the insane makeup, which has since inspired many how-to videos for achieving the signature looks. With glittery eyeshadow, whimsical shapes dawn on temples, and neon eyeliner, the head makeup artist Donielle Davy managed to balance the character’s youthfulness with a touch of dark fantasy. The most iconic by far is Jules’s rainbow eyelash extensions styled with her sheer technicolor set, creating an absolutely striking look. I for one, can’t wait to see what they have in store for us in season two.
Grace & Frankie
The touching show following two older women on their journey of becoming best friends after discovering their husbands were secretly in love with each other, is sure to put a smile on anyone’s face. The story showcases the power of two strong women on their paths of independence, and the wardrobe reflects just that with the vibrant and singular style. Grace, one of the main characters played by the much-loved Jane Fonda, is donned in perfectly tailored and chic outfits from the likes of Ralph Lauren, Carolina Herrara, and Armani. Franie, played by Lily Tomlin, features a wardrobe that matches her eccentric personality to a tee. Her vintage outfits scream the ‘70s with flowy dresses and statement jewelry. One of the daughters in the show, Brianna, also impresses audiences with her bold style full of powerful colors that showcase the strong personality of the character.
The Undoing
Nicole Kidman basically carries the fashion intrigue of this show on her back. Her luscious bright red head of hair wowed audiences and paired with her character, Grace’s, signature trench coats made for a uniquely glorious look. Grace’s favorite pastime in the show was taking long walks through the Upper East Side as she was tormented by the possibility of her husband being on trial for murder. The great deal of time spent outdoors meant that her lavish outerwear was on full display; from her textured moss green coat and velvet deep red overcoat, to her elegant floral trench and gem-studded cape.
Bling Empire
As the only reality tv show on this list, it’s obvious that Bling Empire is a stand-out in fashion content. The show follows a group of wealthy Asian Americans in Los Angeles, and quickly gained popularity for the level of drama mixed with the entertaining and extravagant lifestyles. The cast members are members of high society, and have the money to match. The millionaire and billionaire socialites spend correctly though; on incredibly fabulous fashion. Watch as Anna orders a Dior collection to her house for fitting, Kane’s impressive shoe wall, and evening wear that will make your jaw drop.
