Nadia Wire is a Danish knitwear designer who graduated from London at Central Saint Martins in 2017, where she studied textile design and specialised in knitwear. She has since then gained great experience working for several high-end brands.
After returning to Copenhagen, Nadia Wire founded her brand and knitting factory in 2020.
‘’We knit bold colours and playful shapes to fit all seasons and wardrobes. All our pieces are manufactured at our knitting factory in Denmark, where we operate under a small scale and a made to order vision. Working side by side with our production department, we take well-informed design decisions, and, by extension, saves avoidable waste.’’
Non-seasonal knitwear
NADIA WIRE produces non-seasonal knitwear collections in order to cherish the process of creating something new, and to challenge the existing circumstances of the consumer culture. The collections are not labelled with SS or AW, since NADIA WIRE believe they should be worn for any season. In addition, the brand doesn’t operate with a time limit for the creations: It’s possible to purchase each collection as long as the necessary stock yarns can be required exclusively from European suppliers.
Manufactured in Denmark
NADIA WIRE has taken the audacious decision to locate the manufacturing facility in Denmark, next door to the rest of team behind the brand. NADIA WIRE has embarked on this ambitious journey in order to bring back the textile production to Denmark, and by extent, to guarantee a responsible production with a low environmental impact and high-quality products.
At the factory everything is created and manufactured: From the very first textile to the final garment. NADIA WIRE work with digital knitting machines from the German company Stoll. These are operated by the team, who has specialized in digital knitting, manufacturing, and design from all over the World.
Made to order
One of the ways to address the problem of overproduction is simply to match supply and demand, which NADIA WIRE do so by operating on a small scale and made to order vision. Therefore, the brand does not keep a stock and production only starts once an order has been received. In that way every piece of knitwear is created especially for the customer who orders it.
Waste awareness
Zero waste is a topic at the core of the brand. Instead of cutting and sewing in fabrics, NADIA WIRE creates technical knitting calculation for each garment in order to shape the fabric directly on the knitting machine – also called fully fashioning. In that way any unnecessary materials are avoided, and the waste created are kept for future use.
