Designer Spotlight: Zhania Studio and the Art of Sculptural Knitwear

An emerging slow-fashion designer exploring wearable art through hand-crafted materials, texture, and form

Zhania Studio is an emerging slow-fashion label founded by designer Zhania Tasmurzina, where clothing is treated as a form of living art. Rooted in sculptural knitwear and one-of-a-kind pieces, the brand explores how emotion, material, and form come together on the body.

Zhania’s creative process begins with art rather than function. Abstract drawings, intuitive sketches, and color studies serve as the foundation for each piece, allowing ideas to remain fluid before taking physical shape. From there, materials lead the way. Unconventional elements such as paper yarn, metal wire, Japanese cotton, and plant-dyed fibers are worked by hand, shaping garments through texture, weight, and structure rather than predefined silhouettes.

A recurring theme in this collection is the space between concept and completion. By placing drawn silhouettes alongside finished garments, Zhania reveals the moment where an idea is still emotional, unfinished, and open to interpretation. It is in this in-between state ( where fashion moves closer to sculpture ) that the brand’s identity becomes most apparent

The images presented highlight not only the final looks worn on the body, but also the details, handwork, and creative fragments that bring each piece to life. Together, they offer an intimate look into a practice guided by slowness, intuition, and craftsmanship. It is where garments are created to exist as individual expressions of thought and form.
