The 5 Summer Trends You Need To Know

The changing season means a changing closet. I love to take the summer to experiment with my looks, getting new pieces and repurposing older looks that are now on-trend. It’s a playful time of the year that always inspires me to layer up on my accessories and try out bold colors that make me feel confident. This summer I plan to try out as many looks as possible, going from the beach to the bars, and then to brunch, soaking up every minute of it. 

Here are the five trends you need to know this season, so you can do the same. 

Head Scarf

It’s about as picturesque as a moment can get; a head scarf blowing in the wind all summer long. The accessory is one of the essential trends of the season, with silky patterns and bright colors adorning the heads of many. The timeless and alluring look also protects your locks from the summer sun, while giving off a graceful aura. With designers everywhere loving this trend, you can take your pick of head scarfs that are ready to wear, but one of my favorites right now is Dior’s white silk scarf with a floral motif that reminds me of bright summer days. 

Statement Headbands

A resurgence in hair accessories has been a major trend this year, but statement headbands stand out as one of the most exciting. While faces were covered with masks, people were free to get creative with their hair, and we were here for it. With minimal effort, this trend can elevate your style as the perfect finishing touch. Throughout the spring/summer 2021 season fashion weeks, you could see headbands emerging, like Dior’s whimsically Knotted Headband and Channels elegant Pearl Logo Headband. 

Pastel Tones

Pastel tones are a warm welcome moving into summer, carrying a certain uplifting energy with them. The light tones feel soft and fun after a heavy year, reminiscent of childlike fun in some ways. In the Resort 2021 Versace collection, optimistic pastel colors can be seen throughout. Soft blues, bright lavenders and cool mints are all a set to be stars of your summer wardrobe. 

Oversized Shoulder Pad Jackets 

The 80’s-esque trend is now a refined version of what it once was, suited for an elegant yet effortless aesthetic which elongates your legs and creates a beautiful silhouette. Perfect for layering and adding a new dimension to your style, these jackets can take you from a casual look with bike shorts to professional attire with trousers. It’s a confident addition to your wardrobe, one that makes you feel powerful when you wear it. Gucci’s recent collaboration with Balenciaga’s, the Aria collection, showcases this trend beautifully, boldness tangible in each look. 

Yellow and Camel Tones

Along with the bolder tones of the season comes neutral hues that balance them out perfectly. A pale yellow carries on the theme of hopefulness moving into the upcoming months, and is the exact tone you can see in designers like Salvatore Ferragamo SS2021 collections. A soft camel adds instant elegance to an outfit, a classic tone that will always complement the latest trends and patterns.
