Your home should be a safe space that encourages wellbeing and calm. It’s your place to relax and be at one with yourself. With a few simple additions, you can create a sensory haven that stimulates positive feelings visually, and through pleasant scents and textures. There are special interior design tricks to try that will help produce a calming atmosphere. A few personal touches as well will make a happy home. If you’re spending a lot of time indoors at the moment, you could also try separating spaces for work and relaxation. Here are ten ways to transform your home into a wellness sanctuary this spring.

Let in the light

Natural light has a positive effect on your mood and will give you an energy boost during the day. Now that spring is around the corner, it’s time to make the most of those extra hours of sunshine. It could be time to upgrade your window coverings. Instead of heavy curtains, opt for shutters or blinds you can adjust. This way you can let in the light but reduce glare if necessary while you’re working. If you choose shuttercraft window coverings, you can take your pick from their full stylish range of shutters and blinds.

Natural scents

Aromatherapy is a natural remedy to relieve anxiety and stress. You could DIY your own diffuser by adding essential oils for calm to a reusable spray bottle. Alternatively, you could invest in a couple of candles or even fill your home with fresh flowers. Natural scents have a very relaxing effect and bring the outside into your home.

A touch of greenery

Plants also produce a calming atmosphere and they can also work as fantastic feature pieces. If you’re not naturally green-thumbed, there are plenty of low-maintenance house plants that also work as self-care reminders. Being surrounded by greenery has many wellness benefits. It reduces stress and anxiety and improves your mood. Studies have also shown that plants in the workspace can increase your productivity and job satisfaction overall. Get a couple for your home office area.

A mix of textures

A mix of cozy textures can help turn your house into a home. Add a couple of soft throw pillows and light blankets to snuggle up with in the evening. You could also invest in new rugs to bury your bare feet into. These types of textures are very comforting. Now that the warm weather is on its way, however, you might want to change your bedding for something fresher and lighter. A combination of different textures will help stimulate your senses.

Original artwork

There are many benefits of art in the home. Looking at it is almost therapeutic as it provokes thought and can change your perspective. This is very calming and for this reason, art works as a self-care reminder as well. It allows you to stop focusing on your anxieties and change the way you think. Why not check out a local artist or even a nearby thrift store? Look for pieces that interest you and reflect your personality. You could even create your own artwork to decorate your home with.

Get creative

If you have artistic talent, why stop there? There are plenty of fun ways you can get creative at home. You could start a new upcycling project. Repurpose some old furniture or unused household items. You’d be surprised what you can make with junk you find in the basement or attic. Turn old household objects into planters and use them to add a unique touch to your decor. You can find plenty of upcycling ideas and inspiration online. These types of creative projects are very rewarding.

Relaxing zones

Consider rearranging your home to create zones. If you’re working from home, have a separate space to boost your productivity and create a chill-out zone to go to when you’ve finished. Even if you just set up a comfy place to sit and watch your favorite shows, you’ll associate this with serenity and calm after a long hard day.

Mindful decluttering

A clean home is a much less stressful environment to live in. Make the effort to do a bit of spring cleaning and mindful decluttering. Get rid of all the old clothes and items you no longer use. If these are in good condition you can donate them. You can find your local goodwill online. Decluttering is considered a mindful activity as doing allows you to feel a sense of achievement. It also cultivates a happy healthy environment. It’s an easy way to prevent a buildup of dust, bacteria, and allergens in the home, and let the clean air flow through instead.

Block out sounds

Serenity is easier to achieve in a quiet home. If you have noisy neighbors or live on a busy street, this could be a bit of a challenge. You could invest in some of the best noise-canceling headphones in 2021, to help block out distracting sounds. This will help you focus on your work, and allow you to relax in your home. You could even use your new headphones to practice guided meditation and other mindfulness activities.

Work your green thumbs

Gardening is very therapeutic as it allows you to get back in touch with nature. If you’ve got yard space, you could consider setting up a small vegetable garden, or hanging baskets. You’d be surprised how little space you actually need and you could even upcycle old drawers and crates to make flower beds. If you don’t have much outdoor space to work with then there are plenty of indoor garden ideas you can try. You could start a herb garden, grow a living wall, or set up some mini succulents in your home office.

In a few easy steps, you can transform your home into a haven of peace and tranquility. Make the most of your space and create a calming atmosphere you can enjoy. Declutter and clean for self-care this spring and bring a bit of the outside in.
