Italy is home to some of the finest designer brands, hands down! Though Milan is considered one of the four fashion capitals of the world, Rome never seems to get full attention for bringing Italian style to the forefront. The 2022 edition of Roma Fashion Week, held from February 2 to 4, captured the essence of contemporary Italian fashion.
Twelve brands selected by Altaroma, a fashion agency based in Rome, got to showcase their collection on the runway. This digital event highlighted some of the technologies and complex techniques used to produce new collections. President of Altaroma, Silvia Venturini Fendi inaugurated the event, saying, in part, “Altaroma is an institution, a family, a travel companion to grow, overcome difficulties and achieve success. It is a role which we have helped to develop and which we have tenaciously defended, especially in recent years.”
She continued, “We have been able to do this thanks to the confidence and support of local institutions, such as the Chamber of Commerce and the Region of Lazio, and of national institutions, such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Italian Trade Agency.”
Designer labels Francesca Cottone, Gams Note, John Zucca and the Silted Company were the first three brands to showcase their collections followed by Cru Le, Eticlò, Francesca Marchisio and Homie. Last but not least, Annagiulia Firenze, Maria Sapio, Orequo and Sartoria 74 were the final four to present their clothing lines on the concluding day of Roma Fashion Week.
Although these designers share a common vision, their practices are strikingly unique. Each craftsman brings a different story, a different experience to the table. These differences ultimately shape the structure of their designs. While some brands are geared towards sustainability, others depend heavily on handmade designs and timeless styles. Some of these labels even cater to social causes, including advocacy for the LGBTQ+ community, while others opt for styles that look into a future free of social constraints.
Each day of the event was dedicated to a unique theme. The premiere event emphasized on women and future, while the remaining two days focused on new inclusive economic ecosystem and sustainable, digital and innovation. See below for event images!
