Maybe So.

It is hardly new information that self-care improves and maintains mental health, the relationship between the mental state and a routine that feels “indulgent” immediately improves day to day mood. In 2020 “self-care” for some people, ie me, is synonymous with skincare and this might be because skincare and beauty brands love marketing with this terminology to remind us that, yeah, doing a facemask in your bathtub with a glass of your favourite cheap wine is definitely self-care and will 100% cure depression. These stats are real.
Now let’s address the elephant in the room, who can’t leave because of quarantine, her name is Ms. Rona. Since we are forced to stay at home, it is increasingly difficult to maintain the will to go on. The Psychiatric Times published an article on emotional wellbeing during the COVID-19 pandemic that states “Paying attention to routines may be especially important during times of stress to keep your body clock regular and your mood stable. Helping your body clock to stay on track during major life disruptions such as the COVID-19 pandemic may help you feel better.” In conclusion, obviously this is the time to begin that regimented 12 step skincare routine you always said you would do.
Canadian brand Lise Watier was founded in Montreal and has products that check every box of a simple skincare routine, like their Cooling Cream Foam Cleanser and their Soothing Rose Petal Toner. Now is the perfect time to educate yourself on what your skin needs using the interweb as your resource and throwing away your money on all the brands you’ve always dreamed of having. Picture this: It is 7pm after a long day of lounging and eating. You aren’t feeling so great because your brain keeps telling you that you are lacking productivity. Capitalism has brainwashed us to equate our level of productivity with self-worth. Suddenly, you decide to treat yourself because you deserve it! Let’s face it, during your life -before- you worked hard to sustain yourself AND have fun. It can be exhausting and although you are probably missing it, it is better to make the most with what you have. You spring up from the sunken spot on your couch and go to your bathroom to put on a facemask. Opening your favourite bottle of wine that you’re also treating yourself with after the long line at the SAQ because guess what? You deserve it. Your skin deserves it so you invest into buying toners and serums focused on reducing the tiny imperfections that will allow you to love yourself completely. Because why not.
