Melli, who was already a well-known online personality, turned to music after her YouTube channel was taken down. She needed a new way to express herself till she could re-establish a new channel. She discovered that she appreciated the process of composing music, and that creating music with positive feelings that makes others happy – we had the opportunity to interview her.

We are glad to have you on Flanelle Magazine Melli. You are well-known for your musical talent along with your Youtube Channel, but could you introduce yourself in your own words?

Hey, I’m Melli. I am from Paris France, but I currently live in LA. And I am an artist and a youtuber.

You were raised in Neuilly-sur-Marne, a suburb of Paris and moved to the United-States later on. How would you say your upbringing influenced your artistic approach?

My upbringing really influenced my music because of the environment I was in. We were not poor but life wasn’t really easy. My mom had to grind for me and my siblings. Some of my music, like my song “War”, is a reflection of the pain I had to overcome in my life.

Atlanta was the first city you explored while being in the US. The city is well-known for its musical scene. How did you experience living in such a creative context?

Atlanta was really an awesome place to grow musically. There are a lot of opportunities to brush shoulders with people who are in the music industry and learn from them.

In 2019, you left Atlanta to move to Los Angeles. Why did you choose to settle there?

To be honest, I was just done with Atlanta! I wanted a change of scenery and LA seemed the perfect place for me musically and creatively.

At the end of 2021, you released your song ‘Marché’ (Walk) which attracted a lot of attention. While talking about the track you said “I want to promote self-love with my music, and I hope people enjoy listening to it, share it with their friends and all enjoy it together!” Could you further explain this statement to us?

Absolutely, Marche is a fun song where you can let loose and own your shit which to me, promotes self love. It is also a mix of a lot of genres like hip hop, afrobeat, pop, EDM. I feel like as soon as it starts you want to dance and have a good time..

Through the ‘Marché’ (Walk) music video we can clearly see the references to ball culture and fashion shows. Do these kinds of performances contribute to developing self-love according to you?

I feel that fashion shows are something very empowering. I walked in a couple fashion shows. The feeling and the confidence that came from them was just amazing and made me feel like I was on top of the world. So yes, I would say these performances contribute to developing self-love.

Along with music, you develop the Pineapple Show on your  youtube channel. The show is inviting multiple personalities and exploring various topics. Could you explain the concept and purposes of the show?

Yes, I love the Pineapple Show. I really just wanted to give people the opportunity to meet and talk! Mostly for guys to come and have the opportunity to talk to attractive women and see where it could go. The word “pineapple” came as a safe word for the women in case they felt uncomfortable, but it ended up taking on a whole other meaning!
