The Duality of the Mother-Daughter Relationship: Love and Struggle
This photographic series, grounded in fashion design, explores the deep psychological tension and role complexity embedded in the mother-daughter relationship. Often seen as a symbol of intimacy and tenderness, this bond is in fact the first emotional environment an individual experiences, and also the origin of many forms of control, projection, and identity crisis.
The recurring gestures of concealment, entanglement, distortion, and closeness suggest a paradox: the mother-daughter bond is both inseparable and in urgent need of separation. Fabric, as a symbolic medium, evokes the warmth of a mother’s embrace as well as the invisible binds of emotional control, reflecting the blurred boundaries between care and intrusion, protection and loss of autonomy.
This work invites reflection on the power dynamics within intimacy: when a relationship is formed in the name of love, does it also shape the individual’s boundaries, and their struggle to define them?
