“Clothes should be simple but well thought. I love menswear for its tailoring qualities and womenswear, because it makes me dream. Great style happens when it really reflects who you are.” – DUY Nguyen
It’s with a big honour that Montreal welcomes again one of its favourite local designer for the 23rd edition of Montreal Fashion Week (SMM23) on Wednesday, September 5th, 2012. Media, photographers and all of those who attended the show got the opportunity to admire the spring/summer 2013 collection of one of our favourite local designer DUY Nguyen.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with his work, Duy Nguyen was born in Vietnam but raised in Montreal. Graduated from Lasalle College in fashion design, he had the opportunity to work with some of the most famous Canadian designers and got the title of Quebec City semi-finalist at the Mercedes-Benz Start Up event this year early summer. For him, women have always to be beautifully dressed, no matter what are the circumstances. Indeed, feminine yet innovative, edgy and timeless pieces are essential in every woman’s wardrobe. That view of his results in his masterpieces. Precision and contemporary tailoring paired with luxurious fabrics and the liberty of creation are his expertise and I am pretty sure his name will remain in the fashion industry for the years to come.

But what about his show in collaboration with Elle Québec and his latest collection? During the runway, silky materials, chiffon, light and flowy fabrics, off-whites and pastel colours – such as mint, powder blue and the contrast of some bright reds – were one of DUY‘s focus on elegant and fun pieces. However, even if some of this summer’s trends have their second chance in his spring/summer 2013 collection – see-through bottoms, cutout tops and peplum dresses and skirts – other trends, like bold prints and florals, were no where to be seen. With the addition of new elements: gold embroidery details, long cut and more fitted jackets, shimmery gold and futuristic cut dresses, DUY has brought a new side to feminism and fresh air to the fashion industry.
Here are some pictures during the SMM23 show to give you an idea of DUY‘s magnificent work:
