Flanelle : Thank you for taking the time to discuss with us! Please tell us a little bit more about you and how you started in the photography Industry ?
I come from Ahmedabad, Gujarat in India, majority of my family works in the field of commerce. But since childhood- the first time I discovered the camera, it was when my parents were to use it on occasions and family outings. I wanted to play with it and then use it slowly and gradually it developed my interest in capturing images and the felt great hearing the sound of the shutter. Later, I enriched my knowledge through visual media platforms and then joined Certificate courses in my city later on I did my undergraduate in Journalism and Mass Communication ( Specialization: Photography) in India, and Graduation in Master of Fine Arts Photography and graduated with Cum Laude from New York Film Academy ( Los Angeles). It has been a great journey so far, and I have been learning since the day I began- till now especially the appreciation by clients, models and people you collaborate with on this journey is what keeps me moving ahead in this journey. The People of the United States have been kind enough to provide me with this opportunity to prove myself and accept a young artist to showcase their work in many ways possible and cater to an audience of various diversities and cultures. Learning and collaborating with friends, then models and artists that are a part of the process have been a part of the process of my journey.
What made you want to focus on the fashion and portrait industry ?
Fashion has been a very personal element in my life, I have always been keen to dress up with outfits that fit me, suit me and make me showcase myself in my possible avatar. A good sense of fashion and how to match and combine different clothes and have comfort at the same time boosts another level of confidence in you when you walk out of your closet for any event or job. I have been a fan of Sneakers, Perfumes,& Jackets. Always looked up to hoardings of luxury brands and dreamt about how they were taken, how are these models looking so great, is it just their aura or the clothing as well? Later in the Journey, learning, and exploring the fashion industry just amazed me with its behind the scene production, the clothing senses and ways to make it look interesting grabbed my attention and made me keen to work in this to keep my interest in fashion also awake and keep myself close to fashion and its glam nature.
What role has photography taken in your personal and professional life?
Photography has taken a good role but at the same time a very bad habit in my personal and professional life. It’s been a great life, learning something new every day, exploring new information, ideas, technologies and tricks every day and implementing and trying those new elements and exploring is a great part and that has also made me more patient and calm in nature to hold on to things and explore them for a longer time rather than just leaving them once done. But the bad thing it has done is, now wherever I go, I feel like I need to photograph everything, even the smallest moment, the smallest trips or events in that process mostly I lose myself and lose that time to enjoy the place, the nature, the event, the feeling of the space is lost sometimes due to that interest to capture everything and tendency of feeling that I wanna collect all the memories in best possible quality.
Was there a specific collaboration or moment that you cherish in your career?
Till now, there hasn’t been any collaboration that I would cherish, but there’s one dream wherein I wanna collaborate with Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid. I have been a huge admirer of their work and their work attitude and hard work, their journey is incredible and it showcases the amount of hard work they have put in– the problems they would have faced, the rejections at the beginning of their career.
If you could give one tip to yourself at the beginning of your photography career, what would it be and why ?
There would be many tips I would give myself but to choose the one I would definitely give myself is – Leisure and Luxury won’t land you anywhere so hard work for your passion, earn your dream, own your Success and repeat. Don’t Stop, Keep moving and keep learning.
Can you give us some insight on your day-to-day as a fashion photographer ?
The insight into my schedule would be pretty boring to know as it’s pretty unusual, the days when I am not shooting I wake up a bit late as I am a night owl, I like to work on my edits at night – I like that peace, silence around me and gives me immense focus to post-process, colour grade the images and spend more time on them rather than day time wherein there’s a lot of disturbance and diversion which affects your focus. On days when I am shooting I like to be prepared the night before with the equipment, with their charging, their condition, the checklist for the equipment and all mood boards in mind to know the mood and vibe of the shoot, to begin with. I like to be on time, and mostly I tend to reach on time and also do appreciate people I work with or vice versa being on time and that relieves a major amount of stress for me.
What are the future plans for Ravin Goyal ?
Future plans are just to keep working, rise and shine. Fulfil dream to work with major Magazines in the Industry and Models to showcase their talent and skills in collaboration with mine.
