Experiencing the Perfect Blend of Tranquility and Luxury in Mykonos

Text by Sarah-Eve Leduc, Photos by Sarah White

In mid-May, Mykonos starts buzzing with anticipation. Staff return to the island, readying for the influx of tourists who come for the whitewashed houses, warm weather, turquoise waters and legendary parties. Yet, on the east side of the island, tranquility prevails. Nestled in a secluded and exclusive location just about 15 minutes from Mykonos Town, The Wild Hotel by Interni offers a sanctuary of peace and a perfect retreat for recharging. At dawn, the balcony view presents a breathtaking tableau of islands and sea accompanied by the gentle melody of waves and wind. Yachts glide gently along the waterway towards the Port of Mykonos. Straight ahead lies “Goat Island,” an island inhabited solely by goats, brimming with grottos and nooks perfect for a diving excursion. As you take in this view, your eyes are drawn to a serene alcove below the hotel, where an exclusive beach awaits. A few steps down, the path to the beach is carved into the natural rock, offering stunning panoramic views of the Aegean Sea. For Alexandros Varveris, co-owner with his brother Filippos, luxury is synonymous with comfort. This philosophy is woven into every aspect of The Wild Hotel.

The Wild Hotel is a peaceful refuge. Catering to an increasingly discerning clientele, the establishment offers a Mykonos experience centered around relaxation and well-being, diverging from the island’s party-centric reputation. During the day, the beach, with its private access and serene, music-free environment, offers an authentic and peaceful retreat under the Greek sun. An outdoor bar service provides refreshing beverages throughout the day. Should the weather be less favorable, guests can reserve a session at the spa and enjoy the secluded heated pool in the spa’s waiting area. The spa also offers personalized massages and treatments, complemented by a small fitness corner overlooking the pool and the sea.

Enthusiasts can also embark on sea excursions arranged by the hotel’s concierge service; A catamaran trip followed by a visit to Delos Island is one of the options offered. Steeped in legend, Delos is said to be the birthplace of Apollo and Artemis. This archaeological treasure trove, once the center of the ancient world, boasts some of the most remarkable sites, including temples and remnants of ancient banks.

For adventurous travelers seeking a unique experience, joining local fishermen for traditional fishing trips provides an authentic taste of Mykonian life.

As the sun sets, guests can unwind at a cozy bar with horizon views and dine at either of the two hotel’s restaurants, La Taverna or Raw.

The hotel’s restaurant, La Taverna, is known for its authenticity. The real value of its food lies in the freshness of its ingredients and the simplicity of its dishes. A must-try is the taramosalata mousse, best enjoyed with a crisp mineral white wine. The menu also caters to vegan and vegetarian preferences.

Raw, the hotel’s latest dining venue, offers a romantic Japanese-Mediterranean fusion experience. With picturesque views of the sea, tables cascading down a pine tree-clad cliffside, and low-lit lanterns enhancing the ambiance, the creative dishes are rich in flavor, color, and texture, making for an unforgettable dining experience.

Just a short drive from the hotel, Interni stands as one of Mykonos’ most lively restaurants. Half-restaurant, half-club, it features a DJ, bottle service, and impeccable staff. The hospitality here is unparalleled, with attentive service tailored to dietary needs, ensuring a seamless dining experience that often culminates in impromptu dance sessions.

Travel is a gift to be shared, an art and a treasure to be cherished by its creator and audience. The Wild Hotel, off the beaten path, embodies this philosophy. It offers an immersion into a slower pace of life, in harmony with nature. In Mykonos, life is a balance of contrasts: off-season tranquility versus high-season vibrancy, relaxed sunbathing against all-night revelry. The Wild Hotel captures the essence of this duality, offering an oasis of calm amidst the island’s enchanting bustle. With its private beach, personalized spa treatments, and a fitness corner overlooking the pool and sea, The Wild Hotel invites guests to embrace tranquility and immerse themselves in a luxurious escape where serenity meets with raw, wild comfort.
