Malo, historic Florentine maison specializing in cashmere knitwear, presents “The Art of the Earth”, the SS23 collection. A tribute to the creativity, to the transformation that forges, molds and creates, to the life itself that springs from substance.
A collection inspired by the transformation and modeling of elements, by the patience of those who work to create beauty. Suggestions that start from Africa, the cradle of humanity where everything was originated. The earth seen as a primary element which, modeled, creates everyday objects. So, cashmere, which comes from the Hircus goat in Mongolia, is spun and woven to create garments.
The patient work of stylistic research on African origins is revealed in grainy knit stitches inspired by the weaves of Masai mats, thick but light, rich and three-dimensional. Surprising openwork, mirrored motifs such as tribal embroideries create plays of light among the finest yarns in unisex sweaters that reinforce the idea of genderless garments. Stitches inspired by Congo fishermen’s nets, soft and full cashmere tapes with details of great value. Enveloping suede gives a sophisticated sensuality, recalling safari notes. The hemp in the light pullovers recalls the textures of old grainy and rustic Namibian canvases and pullovers with geometric patterns are inspired by North African carpets.
The color palette takes inspiration from the earth element, defining shades that recall desert landscapes, ivory white, the colors of the sandy horizons of Mother Africa and are pulverized into pink skies and blue horizons. The fuchsias, the new reds and ginger that recall the fiery sunsets of Mombasa in Karen Blixen’s books.
All wrapped up in a rare refinement, contemporary reading but resistant to the shocks of time. The craftsman is the one who transforms the material, clay into terracotta, fiber into knitwear and his hours of work acquire value as times are diluted. The workers of Malo maintain and preserve their ancient art, handing it down so as not to lose a rare wealth, totally Made in Italy.
“The Art of the Earth” is a collection that lives through that sensitivity that makes a garment a personal heritage of the wearer. Like a craftsman shapes clay to create a refined vase, the fibers of the most precious materials are worked by expert workers to create timeless garments, with the suffused luxury typical of Malo, not ostentatious but always synonymous with attention to details, class and eternal elegance. The aesthetic is coordinated but ready to be modeled on whoever chooses to wear it. Like substance in the hands of a skilled craftsman, each garment adapts and coexists with the wearer, in an authentic and timeless allure.
The SS23 Collection is sensation, emotion and research. An important aspect also concerns the sustainable choices, in materials, methods and projects that Malo has chosen to support.
Within the collection we find research, study and innovation in yarns, materials and processes:
the extraordinary 4 seasons light cashmere, worked on a 33 gauge loom which performs extremely light processes for a high quality result. A lightweight cashmere to wear all year round;
the cashmere vanisé which derives from the union between cashmere fibers and a small percentage of lycra. This mix makes the yarn lighter, softer and more delicate, a real caress on the skin;
the integral garments, made entirely without seams, the doubles, iconic for Malo, synonymous with luxury in knitwear;
the Makò cotton, ofthe highest quality, is enriched in some cases with openwork. This type of Makò was made in semi-crepe, a type of yarn that gives what is called a writing effect and gives greater definition and texture to the garments;
the cool cotton, a vanisé-worked cotton with a small percentage of lycra. Yarn designed and manufactured to facilitate thermal exchange and guarantee a pleasant sense of freshness and well-being on the skin. This yarn comes from the new COM4® spinning technology which guarantees less hairiness of the yarn, no pilling effect after numerous washes, superior resistance to abrasion;
the malfilé cotton that recalls the African weaves of fishermen’s nets. This yarn is made from 24% pre-consumer recycled fibers and is GRS (Global Recycle Standard) certified. The Global Recycle Standard is promoted by Textile Exchange, one of the most important international non-profit organizations for responsible and sustainable development in the textile sector. The standard recognizes the importance of recycling for the growth of a sustainable production and consumption model, with the aim of promoting the reduction of resource consumption (virgin raw materials, water and energy) and increasing the quality of recycled products;
a new yarn: the cashmere-cotton, an perfect blend for the 4 seasons that goes alongside light cashmere as a seasons-less proposal;
the hemp, anatural fiber with extraordinary thermal insulating, transpiring and antibacterial properties. Hemp fabrics combine strength with softness, thus allowing obtaining particularly comfortable garments. Hemp is characterized by other very interesting properties: it reflects ultraviolet rays, shields from electrostatic fields, does not irritate the skin because it is hypoallergenic and keeps bacteria away from the surface of our body because it is antiseptic. Furthermore, hemp plantations do not require aggressive treatments with pesticides, herbicides or other chemical products, thus minimizing the environmental impact. The plant can grow up to 4 meters, has robust roots which induce oxygenation of the soil and can reclaim polluted soils and enriching them, increasing their productivity, thanks to a strong supply of nitrogen. Hemp is also one of the most efficient plants in converting carbon dioxide into oxygen.
Finally, part of the cotton chosen by Malo for the creation of the garments of the spring-summer 2023 collection supports Cotton For Life, an innovative, ethical, supportive and sustainable Corporate Social Responsibility project that promotes the organic cultivation of Egyptian cotton, creates a textile supply chain entirely eco-compatible and socially responsible thus encouraging a sustainable fashion.
“The Art of the Earth” is the earth that becomes a refined vase but also that Earth that creates life and that we must respect.
